All about the blog

January 3, 2018

So firstly, I think I should explain a little bit about why I’ve created this blog to add some perspective to the future posts and help to explain a lot of the aspects that my blog is looking to expand upon.

In this age especially with so much technology and social media, the majority of humans have forgotten the purpose of what it means to just be a human. We’re surrounded by money, greed, possessions, social media, fame, phones and addictions. These are just a few of the things we’ve started to replace actual life with. We’ve substituted real connections with likes on our photos, self love with admiration, the chance to have real experiences with snapchat videos and instead of finding something we love to do, we’re finding the thing that will pay us the most money so we can buy more materialistic possessions to give false value to.. Then in the end, we’re a generation still wondering why we aren’t happy and why our lives still feel shit and unfulfilling even though we’ve followed every single thing that society has told us we need to do in order to live a happy and successful life.

There’s a reason for this sense of unfulfillment that so many of us are experiencing throughout the majority of our lives. We’re chasing the wrong things. We’re looking in the wrong places for happiness. We’re feeding our egos and starving our souls. There’s so many changes that can be made to our daily thoughts and decisions that will begin to alter how we perceive life itself, this is what mindfulness is all about. It’s about bringing our minds back to their organic state and learning how to find contentment with simply existing rather than basing happiness on anything external. You’ve probably all heard that saying ‘Happiness comes from within’, however I only really started to hear this over the past couple of years, anything you can buy, have or own is only ever capable of giving temporary satisfaction. As much as we love to simplify the whole process with thoughts such as ‘when I have *insert object of affection* I’ll be happy’ - Nothing can fill this void of unfullfilment except from the realisation that there is in fact nothing missing from your life, everything you need to exist, you are born with and you will have to the day you die. We need to start understanding and believing that this alone is enough to live a genuinely happy life. Everything else is a temporary high and its the attachment to these little happinesses e.g. people, phones, clothing, cars and ideas, that will inevitably lead to suffering as we’re never able to accept when they're over. Only when we’re content within ourselves will we stop looking for external happiness, and only when we have no attachments to these external happinesses do we feel what it’s like to be truly free, mentally and physically.

The realisation of all of this and the very concept that there must be more to life than the ‘Born, Work, Pay Bills, Die’ idea that we’ve had drilled into our heads by society throughout our entire lives is what the Buddha referred to as ‘Awakening’ or ‘Enlightenment’ it’s simply becoming aware of the true meaning of our existence, and this is simply to live. Awakening is a chance to begin your real life, find passions, seek adventure, cut ties and explore the world. Don’t wait until you’re on your death bed to question yourself on why you didn’t truly live when you had the chance. I read a quote by Max Lucado once that changed my life.

“When you are in your final days of your life, what will you want? Will you hug that college degree in the walnut frame? Will you ask to be carried to your garage so you can sit in your car? Will you find comfort in rereading your financial statement? Of course not. What will matter then will be people. If relationships will matter most then, shouldn’t they matter most now?”

Awakening is a journey, everyday that you decide to live by mindfulness practices will bring you a step closer to who you want to become. You’ll start to see past the concept of problems and the worries of everyday life, all it takes is a new perspective and your life will start to change with your mind.

So this is what my blog is. It’s a chance to start your life in the real world, and in the real world we’re all just on a planet floating in space which is pretty fucking cool, put every single thought and feeling into this perspective and you’ll start to realise how minor our daily ‘problems’ and worries are. Choose to take your mind back to it’s organic state. Choose to prioritise happiness and the very concept of living over anything external. Choose a wilder life than you ever thought was possible.
